Neptune is eighth planet from the Sun, and is the first planet that was discovered not by direct observation but by mathematical predection in 1846 because of fluctuations in Uranus' orbit. It had previously been recorded by Galileo in 1612, but he was convinced it was a star. Neptune is a gas/ice giant whose blue hue comes from methane in the upper atmosphere. It has noticable cloud and storm systems, the largest being the Great Dark Spot which was discovered in 1989 by Voyager 2. Following the reclassification of Pluto as a dwarf Planet, in 2006 Neptune once again became the outermost planet in the Solar System after 76 years.

In Greco-Roman mythology, Neptune (Greek name: Poseidon), is the god of the sea. Astrologically, Neptune represents compassion, idealism, creativity and imagination.
