ABOUT EDELSTEIN METALSMITHS

Joshua Edelstein started smithing in 1986 in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi starting with a jewelry and metalsmithing class at Iolani High School that under the tutelage of Cheri Lynn Keefer. Particularly influenced by the ancient arts of seal-engraving and calligraphy that he learned while living in China with his family in the early 1980s, he became fascinated by transferring design concepts from those media into silver as well as borrowing heavily from the cultural aesthetics of his own Jewish roots.

In spite of the scouting efforts of a few decent art schools, Edelstein wound up pursuing a degree in Chinese Languages and Studio Art at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. This combination led to a career as a graphic designer and webmaster for a large Asian-language broadcaster and a local synagogue, experience that further informed his own concept of design. Edelstein Metalsmiths was incorporated and launched in 2007.

Joshua Edelstein is a proud member of The Society of American Silversmiths, The Society of North American Goldsmiths and The Manufacturing Jewelers & Suppliers of America.
